Tech Algebra is Benson Polytechnic High School’s innovative first year Algebra class. Our contextualized learning model helps students put mathematics into practice, applying theoretical concepts into actual business projects. Students will cover the Common Core State Standards while running a printing business. Students will produce t-shirts, cell phone covers, stadium cushions and more in order to help fund the Tech Math classes. Math applications such as graphing, modeling inequalities and solving equations that model product pricing will be completely integrated into the daily class time for students. This interdisciplinary class is taught by a math teacher and a CTE teacher and grants two credits – one Algebra 1-2 aligned to the curriculum of Portland Public Schools, and an elective credit earned for the business portion of the course.
